This photo was taken at the First Annual AJ community flag football games in Dorchester | Credits: Comunicas FoundationAlberto “AJ” Monteiro was violently killed on September 5th, 2017, when he was getting a haircut just one mile away from his home, in the neighborhood of Dorchester, in Boston, Massachusetts.
AJ’s murder happened during daylight, and unfortunately is part of the statistics of unsolved murder cases in Boston. He was just 21.
AJ was a student of St. John Paul II Catholic Academy and the Catholic Memorial High School. He was a football athlete since the age of 6 as running back and tight end for the Dorchester Eagles Pop Warner Team, and then, with the Catholic Memorial Knights.

He was “quiet, humble, and sweet,” Arminda Baptista, AJ’s mother.
In June 2018, AJ’s mother, Arminda Baptista, partnered with the Saint John Paul II Catholic Academy and created the AJ Monteiro Memorial Scholarship Fund, to support the education of low-income Dorchester residents in low income.

Donating to the AJ Monteiro Memorial Scholarship Fund will give Dorchester children living in low income the opportunity of an excellent education at the Saint John Paul II Catholic Academy, with a score of 100% graduation rate and 100% college attendance.
