HYDE PARK, Boston.- An elderly woman was rescued by a neighbor during a house fire in Boston’s Hyde Park neighborhood Friday night, Oct. 2.

Firefighters responded to 684 River St. after receiving reports of smoke coming from the two-story home and an elderly woman inside. Heavy fire and a large amount of material inside the house made it difficult for firefighters to enter.

A neighbor pulled the woman from the home to safety before firefighters arrived.

No injuries were reported among the woman, other residents or firefighters.

The home sustained extensive damage, with losses estimated at more than $500,000. Four adults were displaced by the fire.

Fire officials and city inspectors remained at the scene to investigate the cause of the fire and assess the damage. The American Red Cross was also assisting the displaced residents.
