DOWNTOWN, Boston.- Two people were arrested and 218 fentanyl pills were seized during a downtown Boston enforcement operation Tuesday targeting scooters, mopeds and motorcycles.

The operation took place Sept. 1 around Washington, Franklin and Hawley streets as officers focused on traffic violations and public safety concerns involving the increased use and unlawful operation of scooters and mopeds.

Officers issued 16 motor vehicle citations, seven summonses and towed eight mopeds during the operation.

The first arrest followed a report from two people who told officers that a man was harassing them and asking to look inside their bags. Officers identified the man as Douglas Irby, 47, of Boston, and found that he had an outstanding warrant from Roxbury District Court for trespassing. He was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.

In a separate incident, officers encountered a motorcycle being operated without a license plate. The owner, identified as Juan Mota, 26, of Jamaica Plain, was found to have four active arrest warrants.

A search following Mota’s arrest led to the seizure of two plastic bags containing approximately 218 fentanyl pills, weighing about 24 grams, according to police.

Mota is expected to face charges including fentanyl trafficking, possession of a Class A substance with intent to distribute, and operating an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle.
