DOWNTOWN, Boston.- A Brockton man was arrested Tuesday after police said he used camera-equipped sunglasses and a cellphone to record children at the Boston Common Frog Pond.
Mark Sullivan, 60, was arrested at about 6 a.m. Aug. 18 in the area of 162 Warren Avenue in Brockton by Boston police and U.S. Marshals.
Sullivan was arrested on a straight warrant issued by Boston Municipal Court charging him with photographing the sexual or intimate parts of a child.
The warrant stems from an incident reported at about 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, near 38 Beacon Street at the Boston Common Frog Pond.
Police said multiple witnesses reported seeing Sullivan record children in the playground using sunglasses with a camera installed in them. Witnesses also said he used his cellphone to record the children.
According to police, witnesses said Sullivan also used the camera-equipped sunglasses to record a family that was attempting to change their children while the children were wrapped in towels for privacy.
When the family moved because of Sullivan’s behavior, witnesses said he followed them and scanned the children up and down with the camera sunglasses.
Witnesses confronted Sullivan, police said. He removed the sunglasses and attempted to break them with his hands.
When officers arrived, they observed the damaged sunglasses in Sullivan’s hands. Sullivan told officers that a group of people had confronted him, pulled the glasses from his face and assaulted him, according to police.
An inquiry determined that Sullivan was registered with the Sex Offender Registry, police said. Officers seized his sunglasses and cellphone.
The victims were no longer at the scene when officers arrived, and police said they were unable to immediately locate them.
Sullivan is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
