DORCHESTER, Boston.- Facebook Marketplace activity led investigators to a Dorchester search warrant in a case involving the alleged theft of prototype products from a Needham business, resulting in the recovery of more than $31,000 in stolen goods.
Prototype products valued at more than $31,000 were recovered in Dorchester during the execution of a search warrant tied to the alleged theft and online resale of items taken from a Needham facility. Investigators said the items had been listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace while still in the testing and development phase.
The investigation began at the end of May after a local business reported suspected thefts from its Needham facility. Employees identified a Facebook Marketplace profile advertising prototype products that had not yet been released to the public.
Detective Timmerman worked with the company’s security team to identify individuals allegedly involved. Investigators determined that prototype and other products were removed from the facility and resold online.
With assistance from the Boston Police Department, investigators executed a search warrant at a residence in Dorchester, where detectives seized more than $31,000 worth of stolen products.
A 49-year-old man from Waltham is facing a charge of larceny over $1,200. A 31-year-old woman from Boston is facing a charge of receiving stolen property over $1,200.
