BOSTON, Mass.- The Dorchester community will come together this summer for the 9th annual AJ Monteiro Memorial Flag Football Game, a tradition that honors the life of Alberto “AJ” Monteiro and celebrates the impact he continues to have on family, friends, and neighbors.
This year’s event carries special significance as supporters gather to commemorate what would have been AJ’s 30th birthday. Organizers say the annual tradition reflects his spirit, love for community, and the connections he fostered during his life.
Since its founding, the event has brought together generations of residents for a day of remembrance, fellowship, and friendly competition. Participants return each year not only to honor AJ’s memory, but also to strengthen the sense of unity that has become a hallmark of the gathering.
Organizers expressed gratitude for the continued support from volunteers, participants, sponsors, and community members whose involvement has helped keep AJ’s legacy alive. Whether attending as players, volunteers, or spectators, supporters are encouraged to take part in the annual celebration.
AJ’s legacy also continues through the AJ Monteiro Memorial Scholarship Fund. Established in 2018 by his mother, Arminda Baptista, in partnership with Saint John Paul II Catholic Academy, the fund helps provide educational opportunities for students from low-income families in the Dorchester community.
The 9th annual AJ Monteiro Memorial Flag Football Game is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at Robert’s Field on Dunbar Street in Dorchester. Additional event details are expected to be announced closer to the date.
