BOSTON, Mass.- A 16-year-old from Roslindale was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Roxbury after a lengthy foot pursuit that ended with police seizing a loaded handgun, authorities said.
The arrest occurred at about 1:50 p.m. on May 26 during an investigation by the Boston Police Department Youth Violence Strike Force.
Investigators said officers learned the teenager had removed an electronic monitoring device from his ankle and was wanted on an outstanding warrant. Police also determined the suspect had previously fled from the Massachusetts State Police and the Revere Police Department in a vehicle reported stolen out of Mattapan.
Officers located the stolen vehicle near 25 Fulda St. and later saw the suspect walking toward the unoccupied car, according to police.
When officers approached to arrest him, the suspect allegedly grabbed his waistband and ran down Fulda Street. Officers pursued him through the neighborhood as he jumped multiple fences and fled toward Highland Street.
Police said the teenager eventually jumped from a fence behind 227 Highland St. and fell to the ground, briefly disappearing from officers’ sight. With assistance from the department’s K-9 Unit, officers located the suspect hiding in a wooded area behind the property and took him into custody. As officers retraced the teen’s path, they seized a Glock 19 Gen 5 handgun near 41 Fulda St. Police said the firearm was loaded with 12 rounds of ammunition.
The juvenile suspect faces charges including carrying a loaded firearm without a license, second offense; carrying a firearm without a license; possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card; possession of a large-capacity feeding device; and trespassing.
