Quincy man charged after Dorchester home invasion left two people seriously injured

A Quincy man was arrested in Dorchester in connection with a violent home invasion that occurred on April 20, 2026, in which two people suffered serious injuries.

Officers arrested Robert Rutledge, 43, following a weeks-long investigation into the early morning attack at 40 Stratton Street in Dorchester.

At approximately 2:49 a.m. on April 20, officers responded to a report of an assault and battery in progress at the residence. Upon arrival, they found one victim bleeding heavily from facial injuries. A second victim was located inside the apartment with head injuries and was unable to stand without assistance. Both victims were transported by Boston EMS to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Detectives conducted a follow-up investigation in the days after the incident, including reviewing surveillance footage from multiple cameras in the surrounding area. Investigators used that footage, along with additional information developed during the inquiry, to identify the suspect and track his movements after the attack. An arrest warrant was later obtained from court based on the findings.

On May 15, officers responded to a residence on Woodrow Avenue in Dorchester for a reported drug-related investigation, where Rutledge was located and taken into custody. He was transported to a local hospital before being booked at Nashua Street Jail.

Rutledge is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges including home invasion, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person 65 or older. He also faces outstanding warrants from two other district courts.

During the investigation, a second individual was also summonsed to court on a separate drug-related charge.
