BOSTON, Mass.- Nearly 400 volunteers participated in a coordinated cleanup effort on April 25 across 15 sites along the Neponset River, its tributaries, and nearby parks.
According to the Neponset River Watershed Association, participants collected more than 400 bags of trash, debris, and invasive vegetation during the event.
Items removed included 15 tires, assorted vehicle parts, and four lead-acid batteries. Volunteers also cleared construction materials such as a telephone pole, ladders, pallets, pipe sections, and asphalt fragments. Additional debris included metal shelving, shopping carts, and household items such as chairs, electronics, and a tent.
Organizers reported the removal of more than 10 hypodermic needles, along with smaller litter such as bottles, cans, and Styrofoam. Crews also removed seven trailer loads of greenbrier vine.
