Boston store owner pleads guilty in $7 million SNAP fraud scheme

Antonio Bonheur, 74, of Mattapan, has pleaded guilty to food stamp and wire fraud for trafficking nearly $7 million in SNAP benefits through his 150-square-foot Jesula Variety Store in Boston. Monthly SNAP redemptions at the store ranged from $100,000 to $500,000, far exceeding typical supermarkets.

Bonheur also sold alcohol for SNAP benefits and sold MannaPack meals, donated for overseas children, for profit. He concealed proceeds through multiple bank accounts and falsely applied for SNAP benefits himself.

Sentencing is scheduled for July 8, 2026. The case was investigated by the USDA Office of Inspector General, the FBI, and Boston Police, and is prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Mallard.
