A Great Barrington, Massachusetts, man has been arrested and federally charged for allegedly posting threats against President Donald Trump on social media.
Andrew D. Emerald, 45, of Great Barrington, was indicted on eight counts of interstate transmission of threatening communications. He was taken into custody Monday morning and is scheduled for a federal court appearance in Springfield at 2:30 p.m.
Federal authorities say Emerald posted multiple threatening messages on Facebook between May and July 2025, explicitly referencing violence against Trump. The indictment describes posts containing detailed threats and intended harm.
Conviction on these charges carries a maximum sentence of five years in federal prison, three years of supervised release, and fines up to $250,000. Sentencing is determined by a federal judge under U.S. law.
The investigation involved the FBI’s Boston Division, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Massachusetts, the U.S. Secret Service, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and the Great Barrington Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven H. Breslow of the Springfield Branch Office.
Authorities note that these are allegations. Emerald is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
