An off-duty Boston police officer observed a suspect attempting to enter multiple vehicles before an early morning break-in at a Dorchester residence on March 27, 2026, according to police.
Officers assigned to the district responded at approximately 3:58 a.m. to the area of Saint Brendan Road and Hilltop Street following a report of an individual pulling on car door handles. The off-duty officer reported seeing the suspect attempt to open three vehicles without success and later approach a front porch on Rockne Avenue.
Police said the suspect then unlawfully entered a residence, where he was confronted by a homeowner and ordered to leave. Officers encountered the individual as he exited the home.
Michael Potter, 22, of Quincy, was arrested at the scene. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges including breaking and entering, entering a dwelling at nighttime for a felony, and attempted burglary.
