The Dorchester Historical Society and Historic New England will host Voices of Dorchester: Letters from the American Revolution, a program highlighting firsthand accounts from Dorchester residents during the Revolutionary period.
The presentation features letters from a young soldier seeking adventure, correspondence from a lieutenant colonel who communicated with George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, and other notable figures, as well as excerpts from the journal of Samuel Pierce. Attendees are encouraged to bring any Revolutionary-era correspondence from Dorchester residents to contribute to the community historical record.
The program is free, and advance registration is required. An optional tour of the nearby Pierce House will follow, with limited space and separate registration. For more information or to register, call (617) 288-6041.
The main program will be held on Saturday, April 11, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Adams Street Branch of the Boston Public Library, 690 Adams Street, Dorchester, MA. The optional Pierce House tour will follow at 12:15 p.m. at 24 Oakton Avenue, Dorchester, MA.
