A moped driver who allegedly ignored a stop sign caused a chain-reaction crash involving several vehicles Sunday morning in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, according to police.
Officers assigned to Dorchester responded at approximately 10:18 a.m. on March 8, 2026, to a report of a motor vehicle crash with a pedestrian struck at the intersection of Frontenac Street and Lucerne Street.
When officers arrived, they found a moped lying in the middle of the intersection. A female driver remained inside her vehicle, which appeared to have collided with two parked cars following the initial crash.
The woman told officers she had been driving along Lucerne Street when a man operating a moped on Frontenac Street entered the intersection without stopping at a posted stop sign. Her vehicle struck the moped, and in an attempt to regain control of her car she then crashed into two parked vehicles.
Police said the moped operator initially claimed that the woman’s vehicle struck him before he had the opportunity to stop at the intersection. However, officers noted the point of impact was well past the stop sign and closer to the center of the intersection.
Following further investigation, officers concluded the moped driver had proceeded through the stop sign without stopping, triggering the collision with the woman’s vehicle and the subsequent crashes involving the parked cars.
The female driver was transported to a local hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Police issued the male moped operator a summons to appear in Dorchester District Court on charges including unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and additional motor vehicle law violations.
