A Dorchester man was arrested Tuesday night after police seized a firearm capable of fully automatic fire during a foot pursuit, authorities said.
Officers with the Boston Police Department Youth Violence Strike Force were monitoring a group around 10:27 p.m. on March 10 near 12 Harlow St. when they observed people operating scooters and a dirt bike erratically and vehicles stopped in the roadway, blocking traffic.
As officers moved in to disperse the group, a man jumped a guardrail and ran into Hannon Park. Police pursued and stopped the suspect after he was seen clutching his waist while running.
Officers seized a Glock 26 with a switch attached to the rear slide, making it capable of fully automatic fire. Police said one round was in the chamber and 12 rounds were in the magazine.
The suspect, Devon Hamilton, 26, of Dorchester, was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on multiple firearm-related charges, including possession of a machine gun.
