In commemoration of Evacuation Day, the Dorchester Historical Society will host a living-history presentation reflecting on life in Dorchester during the American Revolution.
The program, titled “A Conversation with Submit Clapp Baker,” will feature Dorchester Historical Society Board member Karen McNutt portraying Middie Clapp Baker (1749–1836). Through the format of a historical conversation, the presentation will recount Baker’s memories of people, events, and daily life in Dorchester during the second half of the 18th century.
The program will also highlight the fortification of Dorchester Heights and the subsequent departure of British forces from Boston on March 17, 1776, when the British ended their occupation of the city without a shot being fired.
The event is open to attendees of all ages.
The presentation will take place Sunday, March 15, at 2 p.m., at the historic William Clapp House, 195 Boston Street in Dorchester.
