Dorchester man arrested in Back Bay shoplifting incident

Boston police arrested a Dorchester man Tuesday afternoon after he allegedly stole more than $1,800 worth of merchandise from a Back Bay clothing store.

BPD officers responded around 12:20 p.m. to a larceny report at the Abercrombie & Fitch store on Newbury Street. Loss prevention staff reported they were following a suspect and directed police to the intersection of Belvidere Street and Huntington Avenue.

Police said they saw 24-year-old Shawn Walker carrying two large store bags and attempted to take him into custody. He reportedly resisted briefly before officers were able to handcuff him. The merchandise was seized and returned to the store.

During booking, police said Walker gave a false name, resulting in an additional charge. He is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on charges including shoplifting, resisting arrest, and providing false identification to law enforcement.
