The Boston Police arrested a 17-year-old male Tuesday night in Dorchester after officers allegedly seized a loaded handgun during a street encounter.
According to the agency, officers assigned to Dorchester were patrolling near the intersection of Dakota Street and Washington Street at about 9:09 p.m. when they observed three individuals walking together. Police said the group became noticeably alert after seeing a marked cruiser, and officers recognized one of the individuals from a prior arrest.
The three entered a nearby convenience store, and officers followed them inside. Boston Police said they believed one of the individuals matched the description of a missing juvenile. As officers approached, one individual repeatedly looked toward his waistband, raising concern that he might be armed.
Officers conducted a pat frisk and said they felt what they believed to be a firearm. Police reported that the individual resisted officers’ attempts to place him in handcuffs, leading to a brief struggle. Additional units responded, and all three individuals were detained.
Boston Police said officers seized a Taurus G2C handgun from the juvenile’s waistband. The firearm was loaded with twelve rounds in the magazine. Following further investigation, the other two individuals were released.
The 17-year-old was taken into custody and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges connected to carrying a loaded, large-capacity firearm without a license, possessing ammunition without the required identification card, and resisting arrest.
