Boston police arrested a 26-year-old Dorchester man Monday night after a brief foot chase that began when officers spotted a suspect matching the description of an armed robbery suspect.
At about 9:39 p.m. on October 13, BPD officers conducted a stop in the area of 222 Harvard Street that led to the arrest of Ezequiel Rodriguez on multiple firearm-related charges.
Police said the encounter followed an earlier armed robbery reported around 9:16 p.m. at 323 Washington Street in Dorchester. The suspect in that case was described as a man wearing a black ski mask, black top, and black pants.
While patrolling nearby, officers observed two men walking on Harvard Street toward Talbot Avenue, one of whom was wearing a dark “shiesty-style” mask similar to the suspect description. As officers exited their cruiser to question them, both men fled into a nearby driveway.
During the chase, officers reported seeing Rodriguez clutching his waistband as if handling a heavy object. After a brief pursuit, both individuals were detained. Officers searching the area later found a Glock 17 9mm pistol with a large-capacity magazine behind 220 Harvard Street, along the path where Rodriguez had run. The magazine, capable of holding 31 rounds, contained 25 live rounds of ammunition.
Rodriguez was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and unlawful possession of ammunition without an FID card. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
