A three-alarm fire tore through two six-family homes early Saturday morning on Centre Street in Dorchester, displacing more than 30 residents and injuring both a firefighter and a resident, according to the Boston Fire Department.
The fire was first reported at about 4:45 a.m. at 378 Centre Street, where heavy flames engulfed the rear porches of the building and spread quickly to an adjacent six-family home. Firefighters were ordered to avoid the back porches after they collapsed under the heat and flames.
Crews brought the fire under control by 5:30 a.m., but the damage was extensive. Officials estimate losses at $600,000. Boston EMS transported one firefighter and one resident for medical treatment.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
