Boston police reported two separate arrests over the weekend involving teenage suspects accused of firearm offenses in Dorchester.
On Saturday, August 16, around 1:35 a.m., officers assigned to Mattapan responded to a ShotSpotter activation near 126 Gallivan Boulevard. Police said officers saw a scooter speeding away from the area with two male juveniles on board, later identified as a 14-year-old operator and a 13-year-old passenger. Neither was wearing a helmet, and the scooter fled when the officers attempted to stop it.
At the original scene, investigators recovered ballistic evidence and reviewed surveillance footage, which allegedly showed the same two juveniles firing a gun. Officers later located both suspects outside the William Henderson School on Croftland Avenue. The 13-year-old was found carrying a live .38 caliber round, and a .357 Magnum revolver with four discharged cartridges was discovered hidden in hedges where the 14-year-old had been located.
Both were arrested and are expected to face arraignment in Dorchester District Court on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.
Two days later, on Monday, August 18, at approximately 1:24 a.m., officers assigned to Dorchester responded to a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Talbot Avenue and Dorchester Avenue. Police said the vehicle struck a tree and began smoking, prompting officers to remove the three occupants. Boston Fire and EMS treated the driver for minor injuries and transported him to a hospital.
During the crash investigation, officers allegedly found a Glock 19 handgun with a defaced serial number inside the rear passenger seat pocket. The firearm was equipped with a large-capacity feeding device. Police said a 17-year-old male from Dorchester, seated in the rear passenger area, was also found carrying a 17-round magazine in his pocket.
The juvenile was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges including carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, possession of a large-capacity feeding device, and unlawful possession of ammunition.
