In the early hours of Wednesday, August 6, 2025, officers from the Boston Police Department assigned to the Dorchester Division responded to a reported commercial alarm at 1514 Dorchester Avenue, the location of a Cricket Wireless retail store. Authorities say the call came in shortly before 3:00 a.m.
Upon arrival, responding officers allegedly found the front entrance door to the business shattered. A brick was reportedly discovered inside the premises, and a safe appeared to have been opened. The circumstances suggested a possible forced entry, and investigators began canvassing the area for potential suspects.
Roughly 25 minutes later, at about 3:25 a.m., officers reportedly encountered an individual on Centervale Street, several blocks away, pushing a shopping cart containing a large open box. According to police, the box contained 25 brand-new cell phones displaying the “Cricket Wireless” branding, as well as a smart watch, a pair of earphones, and two karaoke speakers.
The suspect, later identified as Jose Davila, 56, of Dorchester, was taken into custody at the scene. Officers allege that in addition to the electronics, they recovered a screwdriver and flashlight wrapped in two towels. A further search of Davila’s duffle bag allegedly yielded additional tools, including a pry bar, a utility screwdriver, and a pocket knife. Authorities say two portable speakers were found concealed in his back pockets, and approximately $469 in cash was discovered in his front pocket.
Davila was placed under arrest and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court. He faces multiple charges, including Breaking and Entering into a Building at Nighttime for a Felony, Possession of Burglarious Instruments, and Larceny from a Building.
