Search ongoing for missing Dorchester man with disability

The Boston Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating 38-year-old João Tavares, a Dorchester resident who has been reported missing.

Tavares was last seen on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at approximately 2:00 PM in the area of Figurehead Lane in Quincy. Authorities describe him as a Black non-Hispanic male, standing around 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing approximately 190 pounds. He has dark brown skin, is balding, and wears a black and gray beard. At the time of his disappearance, he was last seen wearing a green shirt.

According to police, Tavares lives with a developmental disability, which has raised heightened concern for his well-being. Officials note that he is known to frequent several neighborhoods in Boston, including Stratton Street in Dorchester, as well as the Uphams Corner, Fields Corner, and Massachusetts Avenue/Melnea Cass Boulevard areas.

The Boston Police Department urges anyone with information on Tavares’s whereabouts to call 911 immediately or contact BPD Detectives at 617-343-4712.
