Porch collapse on Hardwood Street sends nine to hospital

At approximately 10 p.m. Friday, a third-floor porch collapsed at 39 Hardwood Street in Dorchester, injuring multiple individuals, according to the Boston Fire Department.

Chief of Operations Rodney Marshall provided an update to the media at the scene, confirming that nine people were transported by Boston EMS to area hospitals for treatment. The extent of their injuries was not immediately disclosed.

Officials from the Inspectional Services Department of Boston responded to the site to begin investigating the cause of the collapse. The structure remains under review as emergency personnel continue to assess the scene.
