A man was taken into custody by the Boston Police Department following an alleged armed robbery involving a hammer at a store on Washington Street in Dorchester.
According to preliminary reports, the suspect was observed stealing merchandise from the store by an off-duty Boston Police officer who was inside. The officer identified himself and ordered the suspect to stop and drop the items. The suspect refused and instead removed a hammer from his waistband. The officer was able to disarm the suspect, who then fled the scene on foot.
Responding BPD units began canvassing the area and located a male individual matching the suspect’s description walking quickly down Washington Street before turning onto Algonquin Street. Officers exited their vehicle and ordered the suspect to stop. The individual allegedly resisted by tensing his body and attempting to pull away, but officers were able to gain control and place him in handcuffs.
Roughly $553 worth of merchandise was recovered and returned to the store.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:35 AM on Sunday, April 13, 2025. The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Ricardo Montero of Dorchester, is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of Armed Robbery and Resisting Arrest.
