The Walgreens at 757 Gallivan Boulevard in Dorchester is set to close permanently in April due to underperformance, the store has confirmed. This closure is part of the pharmacy giant’s broader plan to shut down approximately 500 stores across the U.S. in fiscal year 2025.
The move is part of Walgreens’ “footprint optimization program,” which aims to close around 1,200 locations over the next three years, according to the company’s October 2024 earnings call.
This decision follows the closure of another nearby Walgreens in North Quincy. The store, located at 324 Hancock St., permanently closed its doors on February 27.
In response to the closures, Walgreens has assured customers that prescription services will continue uninterrupted. Patients can transfer their prescriptions to other Walgreens locations, either by contacting a nearby store or managing their refills online.
