The Archdiocese of Boston officially welcomed Archbishop Richard G. Henning as its seventh archbishop during a traditional installation ceremony at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross. Henning, who succeeds Cardinal Seán P. O’Malley, was introduced to the congregation in a service attended by over 1,400 people, including clergy, bishops, and local community leaders.
In his homily, Archbishop Henning expressed gratitude for his new role and reaffirmed his commitment to the faithful of the Archdiocese. He spoke about the importance of faith and devotion, telling the assembly, “I belong to the Lord, and I belong to you, the people of this Archdiocese.”
The ceremony included the reading of the papal bull by Cardinal Christophe Pierre, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, formally confirming Henning’s appointment. After the formal installation, Archbishop Henning celebrated Mass for the congregation and invoked the intercession of the Virgin Mary.
A public reception followed the installation at SoWa Open Market. Archbishop Henning also took part in an Evening Prayer Service at St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Revere, where he addressed the largely Hispanic community, emphasizing the unity of the Archdiocese’s diverse populations.
