Walsh Playground, located at 1005 Washington Street, Dorchester, is closing in mid-October for a $3 million renovation expected to last about nine months. Project manager Amy Linné announced that the contractor is now under contract and construction will begin soon, with completion anticipated by Summer 2025. The entire park will be closed during this time.
The seven-acre park features a playground, tennis and basketball courts, and ballfields. It is named after Gunnery Sgt. William Gary Walsh, a Medal of Honor recipient was killed in action during the Battle of Iwo Jima in 1945. The renovation will enhance facilities, including a new splash pad while preserving the park’s recreational offerings for the community.
