Boston residents can now apply for Spooky Streets mini-grants to help cover the costs of hosting Halloween block parties. Offered by the Mayor’s Office of Civic Organizing, these $250 grants can be used to purchase candy, decorations, pumpkins, and other festive items, making it easier for neighborhoods to celebrate together. To be eligible, events must take place between October 25 and November 3, 2024, and the deadline to apply is September 20 at 5 p.m.
To receive a Spooky Streets grant, applicants must first secure a Play Street Closing Permit and a City of Boston Vendor ID. The Play Street Closing Permit allows residents to block off a residential street for community activities like games, potlucks, and sidewalk chalk. While alcohol, amplified music, and street vendors are prohibited, approved events can still include a variety of fun, family-friendly activities.
Hosts are encouraged to apply for the Play Street Closing Permit at least four weeks before their event, as it is reviewed by both the Boston Transportation and Police Departments.
