A Red Line service suspension will affect the Braintree Branch between JFK/UMass and Braintree from September 6 to September 29.
During these 24 days, shuttle buses will replace trains along the branch. Shuttle service will also be available for Kingston, Middleborough, and Greenbush Commuter Rail passengers between South Station and Braintree on the weekends of September 7-8 and September 14-15, with stops at Braintree, Quincy Adams, Quincy Center, Wollaston, North Quincy, and Ashmont.
This suspension is part of the MBTA’s Track Improvement Program, aimed at repairing 18 miles of track between JFK/UMass and Braintree. The project will eliminate over 20 speed restrictions and potentially reduce round-trip travel times by up to 24 minutes, according to the agency.

Along with track replacement, crews will upgrade signals and enhance station amenities, including new lighting, painting, tiling, and power washing.
