Boston Mayor Michelle Wu announced that she is expecting a new baby, her third child, in January. Wu, her husband Conor, and their children Blaise and Cass are looking forward to the new arrival, expressed the politician.
“It hasn’t been an easy journey, but I’m due in January and couldn’t be more grateful […] I’m grateful to live in this welcoming community that has become the best home my family could imagine. And I’m grateful to know and represent so many hardworking families throughout our city who inspire me everyday,” said Wu.
Born in Chicago, IL, 39-year-old Wu is the daughter of Taiwanese immigrants and graduated from Harvard University. She was elected during the COVID-19 pandemic with a low voter turnout of 23%. Her administration has been marked by controversies, including mandates for private businesses to discriminate against unvaccinated customers during the pandemic and the creation of a list of opposition community leaders to be surveilled by the Boston Police.
Wu is often described as progressive. As a Councilor, she authored pro-birth legislation, including a 2015 ordinance granting city employees six weeks of paid parental leave. Despite this, she is closely associated with Senator Elizabeth Warren, who advocates for closing Pregnancy Resource Centers in Massachusetts for not providing abortion for women in crisis pregnancies, particularly those with low incomes.
