MBTA Red Line shutdowns and shuttle services May 2-12

Starting today, May 2, until May 10, the MBTA Red Line will not operate between Park Street and JFK/UMass due to track repairs.

Additionally, from May 2 to May 9, after 8:30 p.m., no Red Line trains will be running between Ashmont and Park Street. However, free shuttle buses will be provided.

On May 11-12, the Red Line will be suspended between Broadway and North Quincy to facilitate demolition work on the Dorchester Avenue Bridge Replacement Project and Track Improvement Program. Shuttle buses will be in service during this time.

These closures are necessary to address “eight-speed restrictions” caused by worn tracks, aiming to improve safety and efficiency, according to the MBTA.

Also, maintenance activities such as lighting repairs, painting, and deep cleaning will be conducted.

Commuters traveling downtown are strongly advised by the MBTA to use the Commuter Rail during these closures. Free service will be available between Braintree, Quincy Center, JFK/UMass, and South Station.
