The Boston Fire Department responded to heavy smoke and flames emanating from the building.
Boston firefighters managed to contain the blaze to the basement, preventing its spread to the upper floors and adjacent units.
There were no reported injuries, but three residents have been displaced, and damages are estimated to be around $100,000.
The Boston Fire Department’s Fire Investigation Unit (BFD-FIU) is examining the cause of the fire.
