A 47-year-old man residing in Dorchester at the time of his apprehension, Mohammed Chowdhury, pleaded guilty on January 25, 2024, to hiring a contract killer for his wife and her boyfriend. He admitted to two counts of using interstate commerce facilities in the commission of murder-for-hire, with sentencing scheduled for April 23, 2024.
“Mohammed Chowdhury not only wanted to kill his wife, but he was also willing to kill her new boyfriend too. Given his complete lack of respect for human life, there’s no question he belongs behind bars, and today’s conviction ensures that will happen,” said Jodi Cohen, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Division.
Chowdhury was arrested in January 2023 after an informant reported his murder plot. According to the FBI, he had paid someone for the job, but they failed to carry it out. Chowdhury urgently pursued the murders, willing to rob a store for funds. Undercover agents, posing as contract killers, communicated with him.
During meetings in December 2022 and January 2023, Chowdhury revealed his desire to have his wife and her boyfriend killed. He explained that he couldn’t see his children, wanting the undercover agents to rob and beat his wife and her boyfriend to divert suspicion. He provided details such as photographs, addresses, and work schedules. Chowdhury agreed to pay $4,000 per murder with a $500 deposit.

On January 17, 2023, Chowdhury met with undercover agents, provided the deposit, and confirmed his intent for the murders. He was immediately taken into federal custody.
In October 2019, Chowdhury faced prior charges for violating an Abuse Prevention Order. The current charges carry a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. The case is prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Luke A. Goldworm and John T. Dawley.
