During the holiday season -when many are sending and receiving gifts- keeping your delivered packages safe from theft is essential.

The Boston Police Department has offered straightforward tips to safeguard your packages, which are as follows:

  • If you won’t be home, ask a family member, friend, or neighbor to receive your package. Or, have it sent to your workplace for safekeeping.
  • Don’t assume common areas are safe for packages. If outsiders can access them, it might not be secure.
  • Check the USPS website for special delivery instructions before sending anything.
  • Instead of leaving packages unattended, ask carriers to leave a note at the post office for you to pick up later.
  • Tell UPS where to leave your package if you’re not home or have it sent to a UPS Store for easy pickup.
  • Choose FedEx’s “signature for delivery” option so someone has to be there to accept the package. You can also redirect FedEx deliveries to their stores if necessary.
  • If your package gets stolen, report it to the Boston Police Department. For emergencies, call 9-1-1.

Taking these simple precautions ensures your gifts reach their destination securely and hassle-free during this joyful time of year.
