She started taking nature walks for therapy, and others soon joined her. In 2014, she founded the H.E.R.O Nurturing Center, using nature to help others navigate traumatic events. The center has expanded to chapters in Florida and Cuba, aiding many families.
For her efforts, Foster was recognized as a “Hero Among Us” by the Boston Celtics and the Massachusetts State Lottery on December 29, 2022.
H.E.R.O. is a non-profit that supports healing through wellness, mindfulness, and nature-based strategies. It combines evidence-based treatments and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques to foster healing.
The Heroes Among Us program, established by the Celtics in 1997, recognizes exceptional individuals who have made lasting contributions to their communities. The award is presented at every Celtics home game.
