Photo courtesy of Gregory Groover Jr. (Instagram: @gregorygrooverjr)The 2023 Dot Jazz Series will launch with a performance by tenor saxophonist Gregory Groover and his group, which includes Jason Palmer on trumpet, Santiago Bosch on piano, Max Ridley on bass, and Tyson Jackson on drums.
Groover, who began playing music as a teenager in the Church where his dad was a Pastor, is a graduate of the Boston Arts Academy and Berklee College of Music.
He has released two “Negro Spiritual Songbooks” albums inspired by African American spiritual traditions and has shared the stage with renowned musicians such as Philip Bailey (Earth, Wind, and Fire), Patrice Rushen, Terri Lyne Carrington, Danilo Perez, John Patitucci, Brian Blade, and Esperanza Spalding.
The event, presented by Greater Ashmont Main Street and Mandorla Music, will take place at the Peabody Hall, Parish of All Saints (209 Ashmont Street Dorchester, MA 02124) on January 19, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available for $15 in advance or $20 at the door, with free admission for those 18 and under.
