Dorchester remembers Martin Richard nine years after his death

Nine years after the grievous terrorist attack known worldwide as the Boston Marathon bombing, the Dorchester community remembers neighbor Martin Richard, who was only 8 years old when he passed away.

In these challenging times around our world, we want to remember Martin and his message, made viral after his death: “No more hurting people. Peace.”

On April 15, 2013, two terrorists from Boston placed two homemade pressure-cooker bombs near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, killing three and injuring hundreds of others.

Dorchester resident Martin Richard was one of the fatal victims, and his mom and sister were also severely injured.

In January 2014, Martin’s parents Denise and Bill founded the Martin Richard Foundation to advance Martin’s values of sportsmanship, inclusion, kindness and peace by investing in programs that encourage young people to celebrate diversity and engage as community leaders.
