Photo courtesy of the Office of the Mayor of the City of Boston Michelle WuFormer City Councilor Michelle Wu was sworn in today as the 56th Mayor of Boston in a ceremony at City Hall.
Elected with barely 23% of the City’s active voters, Wu replaced Acting Mayor Kim Janey, who received the office following former Mayor Marty Walsh’s departure to serve the Biden administration as U.S. Secretary of Labor.
Mayor Wu is a registered Democrat, she was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1985. Her parents immigrated to the United States from the Republic of China.
Wu graduated from Barrington High School in 2003. Then, she moved to the Boston area to attend college at Harvard University, where she graduated in 2007, and then in 2012 graduated from Harvard Law School .
Mayor Wu resides in the neighborhood of Roslindale with her husband Conor Pewarski and their two children.
