A domestic dispute turned into a 6-hour-long standoff resulting in police officers being injured and a suspect dead in Dorchester.

Today, around 9:30 a.m., officers from the Boston Police Department responded to a call at Ferndale Street (near the Ashmont area) regarding a person with a gun, according to Police Superintendent Gregory Long. On arrival, the police found that the suspect had threatened family members, according to WBZ-TV Reporter Cheryl Fiandaca, and barricaded himself inside an apartment.

Long said that negotiations with the suspect lasted for 5 to 6 hours, and included SWAT teams and Boston police negotiators.

Around 3:30 pm. the police entered the apartment when the suspect fired at the officers, striking three, and getting multiple shots.

Superintendent Long didn’t reveal the identity of the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The three wounded Boston police officers were taken to hospitals in the area with serious non-life-threatening injuries.
