The 32nd annual Tet in Boston celebration that usually takes place in Dorchester will be hosted virtually this year due to current Massachusetts health guidelines.

The Fields Corner area of Dorchester has the highest population density of Vietnamese people in the United States. In Massachusetts, there are around 50,000 Vietnamese-Americans, according to the event organizers.

Tết, or Vietnamese Lunar New Year, is the most notable celebration in Vietnamese culture. The word is a shortened form of Tết Nguyên Đán, which is Sino-Vietnamese for “Feast of the First Morning of the First Day.” Tết celebrates the arrival of spring based on the Vietnamese calendar.

This new year coming is the year of the Ox.

Tết in Boston is brought you by the Vietnamese-American Community of Massachusetts and the Intercollegiate Vietnamese Student Association. The proceeds from the festival go to provide scholarships to high school seniors.

The event will be held online on February 12, 2021, starting at 7:00 p.m. For more information and to watch the event, the Dorchester Post invites you to visit the official Tết in Boston website https://tetboston.org/.
