A non-profit organization called Rescuing Leftover Cuisine Massachusetts (RLCMA) is looking for volunteers to expand their reach and deliver 3,000 meals to people in need in Boston and other areas of Massachusetts.

RLCMA partnership with local restaurants such as Irie Jamaican Style Restaurant and Oasis Restaurant in Dorchester allow volunteers to deliver individually packaged meals directly to homes in need, for free.

Other participant restaurants are Suya Joint (Roxbury), Nos Casa Cafe (Roxbury), Women’s Lunch Place (Boston), Dig Inn (Boston), Flatbread Company (Somerville), and Lombardo’s(Randolph).

According to RLCMA, their volunteer “Rescuers” have transported over 450,000 pounds of excess food and meals for donation since 2017, including over 130,000 pounds of food and 23,000 individually packaged prepared meals since the COVID-19 pandemic started.

“This has been a challenging time for all of us. But for too many individuals, families, and children, COVID-19 has caused an everyday crisis,” stated in a press release Dana Siles, New England Coordinator for RLCMA. “How will we alleviate hunger? This an opportunity to do just that, in real-time, with real results.”

RLCMA requires volunteers from Sunday, November 22 through Saturday, November 28 who are willing to transport meals in any size vehicle. Volunteers without a car may also participate using Uber, Lyft, or a cab and get reimbursed thanks to the City of Boston’s Resiliency Fund Grant.
