Photo courtesy of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation AuthorityWhile the reopening of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts advances, the MBTA is preparing to “significantly ramp up service” across all its forms of public transportation in the city of Boston.
“As the Commonwealth continues its reopening phases and we begin boosting service for all modes, we will continue to protect the riding public and our workforce through enhanced safety protocols, including cleaning and sanitizing our stations and vehicles,” said MBTA General Manager Steve Poftak in an official press release.
The Red Line weekday service will increase with trains every 4.5 to 7 minutes between Alewife and JFK/UMass, and every 9 to 14 minutes between Ashmont and Braintree Branches. The Orange Line will get a weekday service increase with trains every 6 to 9 minutes. The Mattapan Line will increased weekday service with trolleys every 5 to 12 minutes, and added weekend service.
These adjustments of service will be effective on June 21st, 2020.
On the same date, buses weekday service will be added to over fifty high-demand routes city-wide, including Dorchester’s routes 22, 23, 28 and the service will resume in route 19.
On June 22nd, all Commuter Rail Lines will operate increased weekday service with the Fairmount Line also beginning full and complete service schedules as part of the Fairmount Line Weekday Service Pilot.
All the good hygiene practices and social distancing are likely to continue through several months, face coverings are required while onboard all MBTA vehicles, on shuttle buses, and at stations and stops.
