Seventy days after the Baker-Polito administration declared the State of Emergency in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts due to the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, some people will finally be able to get back to business.
The Massachusetts economy will reopen using a four-phase approach, “based on public health guidance,” the state government says. Phase #1 starts on May 18th, 2020.
Right away, the business that will resume activities are: construction, manufacturing, health services that were working on limited capacity, and places of worship. Hair salons, barbershops, car washes, laboratories, and pet grooming, and other businesses will be able to open after Memorial Day. Office spaces resume June 1st in the city of Boston.
These businesses will need to follow several sector-specific protocols and best practices, including mandatory safety standards.
Social distancing, face-covering, and most of the health guidance we have been practicing since the pandemic erupted will likely stay for a long time because according to the state government, the goal of this phased reopening plan is to “methodically allow businesses, services, and activities to resume while avoiding a resurgence of COVID-19 that could erase the progress we’ve made so far.”
