Codman Square Health Center needs help to continue serving the Dorchester community

The health crisis generated by the coronavirus COVID-19 is affecting everyone. However, according to data reported by the city government, it is hitting the hardest communities of the neighborhoods of Dorchester and Mattapan.

Dorchester does not only have a higher rate of positive cases of COVID-19 that the rest of the city, but the neighborhood has a higher percentage of residents living with diabetes type 2, hypertension, asthma, and heart disease, all of these pre-existing conditions that increase coronavirus complications.

Community health centers like Dorchester’s Codman Square Health Center serve as a critical element of the public health system, especially during the COVID-19 crisis, as they are a safety net for over 23,000 residents in Dorchester and Mattapan.

“A high percentage of our patients have pre-existing conditions that make COVID-19 more deadly,” Codman Square’s explains in a recently created online fundraiser.

Since 1979, Codman Square Health Center (637 Washington St., MA 02124) has operated with the mission to serve as a resource for improving the physical, mental, and social well-being of the Dorchester community… and now they need your help.
