The new measure comes after a backlash on social media, where residents criticized the decision to open the schools on Monday despite the winter storm.

“All Boston Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday, December 3rd. School buses will not be running, and after-school activities are canceled,” the school system announced on social media around 5 PM on Monday.
“(We) have made the decision (sic) to close schools tomorrow for the safety of our students. We are asking residents and businesses to shovel their sidewalks and walkways, and look out for one another to ensure safety for all,” Mayor Walsh expressed from Northern Ireland, where he is in what was described as business travel.
Winds gusting as high as 40 mph, total snow accumulations of up to 11 inches and ice accumulations up to a tenth of an inch are expected in the area, according to the National Weather Service advisory in effect until 7 AM on Tuesday, December 3rd.
