Photo courtesy of the Martin Richard FoundationThe Martin Richard Foundation needs the help of hundreds of volunteers to pack 50,000 meals, dry goods, and produce this weekend to support children, students, seniors, and families facing food insecurity in the Greater Boston Area.
“This family-friendly day of community service will put our values of inclusion, kindness, justice and peace into action,” the organization stated.
“Full hearts for full bellies” is the name of the event. It will be hosted this Sunday, October 20th, at the Leahy Holloran Community Center (1 Worrell St. Dorchester, MA 02122) in coordination with four organizations specialized in food security: Meals of Hope, Fresh Truck, Food For Free and Square One.
“All volunteers will work together to pack 50,000 meals with Meals of Hope and will be assigned shifts to work with Fresh Truck, Food For Free, and Square One on smaller projects,” the organization explained.
Food donations for Square One Healthy Kids Campaign will also be collected during the day. The items needed are stuffing, instant potatoes, canned vegetables & cranberry sauce, dessert & bread mixes, pasta, gravy.

The Martin W. Richard Charitable Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable foundation established by the parents of Martin Richard, a Dorchester 8-year-old boy who was killed in the Boston Marathon bombing on April 15, 2013. The foundation provides opportunities for young people to learn, grow and lead through volunteerism and community engagement.
