Boston firefighters responded to the fire around 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 15th, 2019. Around 6:00 p.m. a 9-alarm was issued, and the fire department needed the help from the Police Department to contain the extension.

The Emergency Medical Services transported seven firefighters and two civilians due to non-life-threatening injuries, and six more were attended on-site.
The area was cleared by 10:00 p.m. The Red Cross of Massachusetts and the City of Boston Neighborhood services attended 7 families displaced by the fire. The Gallivan Community Center (61 Woodruff Way, Mattapan) is serving as a shelter for those affected.

The fire department estimates multi-million dollar in loss, and an investigation is ongoing to determine the cause and exact point of origin.
