Author Leah Penniman | Photo by Jamel MoselyMassachusetts native Leah Penniman, author of “Farming While Black: Soul Fire Farm’s Practical Guide to Liberation on the Land,” will share highlights from her book followed by a question-and-answer period and book signing at the Urban Farming Institute.
According to the organizers of the event, Farming While Black is a comprehensive how-to guide for aspiring African-heritage growers to “reclaim their dignity as agriculturists and for all farmers to understand the distinct, technical contributions of African-heritage people to sustainable agriculture.”
Proceeds from this forum, to be held on Thursday, June 6, 2019, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, will benefit the Urban Farming Institute (487 Norfolk St., Boston, MA 02126), whose mission is to develop and promote urban farming as a commercial sector that creates green collar jobs for residents.
Food from Fresh Food Generation will be served. The event is co-sponsored by Boston Medical Center, CommonWealth Kitchen, Higher Ground Farm, Impact Hub Boston, The Food Project, and The Urban Farming Institute of Boston.
