The Martin Richard Foundation started a campaign to request the issue of a U.S. Postal Memorial stamp as a way to get Dorchester neighbor Martin Richard’s message of peace to the nation.

In less than a week, the organization has raised thousands of signatures to back-up their petition to the Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee (CSAC), the group responsible for new stamps issues at the postal service.

“Imagine how many people handle a letter on its journey from sender to receiver, everyone seeing Martin’s message, having to think, even if only momentarily, about peace,” the Foundation states in the petition website.

The Martin W. Richard Charitable Foundation is a charitable foundation established by the parents of Martin Richard, an 8-year-old boy who was killed in the Boston Marathon bombing on April 15, 2013. The foundation provides opportunities for young people to learn, grow and lead through volunteerism and community engagement. They envision a place where people recognize the humanity in others and model the decency needed for a united, compassionate, and inclusive community.

The stamp selection process is not easy, thereof the organization is asking for more support to get it done. For information and to sign the petition click here.
